Mauro Farrugia

Mauro Farrugia is a graduated Composer, Orchestrator, Conductor, Educator, Producer, Freelance Trombone & Euphonium player, and Chorister. Born (May, 1989) in a highly musical family, he is involved in the Classical, Choral, Contemporary, Chamber, Jazz, Pop, and Ska music scenes of his native Island.
From a very young age, Mauro had always shown a keen interest in the rich musical surrounding that he was brought up into. Beginning his first music lessons with his father Alfred, led to obtaining a First Class Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Music Composition (Melitensis, May 2011). During the final year of this degree, Mauro further specialized in Contemporary Mediterranean Music at the Conservatorio Antonio Scontrino in Trapani, Sicily (2011). In May 2012 (Melitensis), he finished reading a pedagogic Postgraduate Certificate in the Education of Music Studies (P.G.C.E.).
In 2014 Mauro was awarded the honour of ‘Ġieħ iż-Żurrieq’, by H.E. President of Malta Dr. Mary Louise Coleiro Preca. Currently Mauro is a full-time regular music teacher at the Malta School of Music, part of Kulleġġ Mikiel Anton Vassalli within the Department of Education. Mauro also holds the position of director of music with the New Choral Singers Choir, and recently had been appointed as musical director of the Queen Victoria Concert Band of Żurrieq. With the same entity, he also serves as coordinator and main tutor of the Queen Victoria School of Music. As a composer Mauro is emerging as one of the leading talents of his native Island, with works being Internationally acclaimed and winning prestigious competitions, granting him international publishing opportunities.
